All too often we get sucked up in people around us. We let
them decide what’s popular, what’s good, and what’s not. Oftentimes, we let
society determine what is a success to us. Success, however, is not something

Don’t be so quick to judge.
Imagine you’re having a bad day. You’re getting snappy with
your coworkers. It’s because you had an argument with a family member at home,
and now you’re frustrated. Your coworkers don’t know that. They could be
thinking that you’re just a mean person. “But I’m not!” you may say. “Don’t be
so quick to judge me!”
You wouldn’t want that to happen to you, so why would you do
that to someone else? You may not be judging someone negatively, but you could
be making assumptions about someone because of what you see. You could be
assuming someone is successful because that person has a nice car or a fancy
outfit. The only person you should be judging is yourself.
Don’t put yourself down.
While you should be judging yourself, you shouldn’t be too
tough on yourself. You may not be in the place you want to be, but that doesn’t
make you a failure. You’re only a failure if you never try to get to where you
are. If you’re at the bottom, don’t see yourself as a loser. See yourself on a
stepping stone, and the only way to go is up.
Don’t let others define success for you.
Do you believe you’re successful because your friends said
so? Did you pick your job because that’s what the economics magazines are
saying is successful? Did you pick your degree because your parents told you
to?
You could excel in a certain field, but that won’t make you
successful. Success is something you must determine yourself. No one else can
